In this guide, you will learn how to beat Cazador while playing Baldur’s Gate 3.
During Act 3 of the game, players will face Cazador, a Vampire Lord whose bid for god-like power poses a severe threat to Baldur’s Gate.
Approaching Cazador – BG3
The fight against Cazador will change depending on whether you bring Astarion with you or not.
If You Bring Astarion
Astarion loses control and attacks his former master regardless of what dialogue option you choose. This gives Cazador the chance to lock Astarion into the ascension ritual, which renders him incapacitated.
It also imposes a three-turn limit on combat, after which Astarion and all other vampire spawn will be disintegrated.
Cazador then becomes Vampire Ascendent, becoming far more powerful. If Astarion is locked into the ritual, you can free Astarion with the Help action to get him back into combat or kill the spawn (Astarion included) to stop Cazador from ascension.
If You Do Not Bring Astarion
Cazador will recognize you as someone who has been traveling with Astarion, even if Astarion is not present when approaching the Vampire Lord.
Combat will automatically trigger at the end of the dialogue unless you pass a tough Deception check to promise to bring Astarion to Cazador.
Types of Enemies
There are many lackeys that support Cazador during the fight, as they are more dangerous than the Vampire Lord himself in certain circumstances.
When engaging in Cazador’s boss battle, the creatures immediately join the fight.
Predator Werewolf (x4)
These werewolves immediately enter the melee range to attack the most vulnerable target. While they hit hard, they have low AC, low DEX, and WIS saves, making them easy fodder for burst damage. Note: They are immune to attacks from non-magical weapons.
Fallen Gur Hunters
The Ghasts will swarm your party and activate the Ghastly Fume trait to poison them. Ensure your party is spread out far enough such that they don’t incapacitate the group at once.
Note: These melee bruisers have low AC, low CON and WIS saves. However, their DEX is high, so consider abilities like Cone of Cold and Sunbeam.
Bats
Bats have very low health and CON saves, but high AC and DEX saves. Use area-of-effect CON or WIS saving throw spells to quickly take them out. They need to be dealt with immediately, as they inflict Threatened on any ranged attackers in the party.
Chatterteeth
Chatterteeth is a skeleton spellcaster who focuses on supporting Cazador. One example includes the spell Eyebite, which incapacitates a party member with the Asleep or Frightened condition.
Although Chatterteeth is a formidable caster with a high health pool, it is a Skeleton, and having low AC makes it vulnerable to bludgeoning damage
How to Beat Cazador – BG3
There are numerous ways to fight Cazdor given the vast variety of build options in the game, but here are the recommended tips and tricks to ensure victory against the Vampire Lord.
Rescue Astarion
If Astarion was with you when you approached Cazador, he gets locked into the ritual and incapacitated for three turns, then disintegrate. Afterward, Cazador will ascend. Astarion must be freed with the Help action.
Using Sunlight
When Cazador is in the presence of sunlight, he loses his vampiric regeneration, gaining a disadvantage on attacks and ability checks, and takes up to 20 Radiant damage per turn.
Area of Effect Attacks
Aside from Chatterteeth and Cazador, most creatures on the platform swam the most vulnerable target. Using area-of-effect spells will deal devastating blows to every Ghast and Werewolf, and destroy all the bats simultaneously.
Turn Undead
Clerics with the Turn Undead Channel Divinity feature can neutralize the Ghasts in one action, despite their advantage on the saving throw.
Displacement and Knockback
Any creature thrown off the edge of the ritual grounds will die instantly, with the exception of Cazador (as of Patch 4).
Abilities like Telekineses and Repelling Blast will easily knock Cazador’s allies off the cliff. One great example is Chatterteeth.
Defeating Cazador (Conclusion)
Vampires automatically return to their coffins when brought close to death in the Forgotten Realms. This applies to Cazador, who, upon defeat, will return to his sarcophagus in the middle of the ritual grounds.
Killing Cazador With Astarion
If you approach the sarcophagus with Astarion, you will face the choice of him becoming Vampire Ascendent, sacrificing thousands of spawn to gain new powers, or convincing Astarion he can supersede his former master.
Killing Cazador Without Astarion
If you approach the sarcophagus without Astarion, you will face the choice of killing him in his sleep or leaving him alone.
Using Detect Thoughts will provide you with the opportunity to peer into Cazador’s mind and discover his troubled past.
