A Hogwarts Legacy sequel is a priority for developer Portkey Games in the future. This is at the offset of Warner Bros. Games releasing Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions on Tuesday, the chief financial officer of Warner Bros. Discovery.

“Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” WBD CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said during an interview at Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference Wednesday. “So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”

In spite of the fact that Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023, the games division of Warner Bros. Discovery has failed to live up to similar expectations in 2024. Specifically, the studio’s most recent release, “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League”, was a miss, the business of games continues to be a strategic asset for the company overall.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is the first game released based on the popular IP from J.K. Rowling since the debut of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023. However, it does not connect to the storyline of the previous game; rather, it is a way to offer modern players the ability to enjoy the quaffle-chasing pastime set in Wizarding World. This was not available in Hogwarts Legacy.

In an interview with Variety in January, Warner Bros. Games chief David Haddad said that “many” fans have gone back and played the game through multiple times, choosing a different Hogwarts house to be sorted into to experience the various branching storylines.

Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game developed by Avalanche Software and initially released in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
