In this guide, you will learn how to complete the quest A Thief in the Night by following the trail of coins in Hogwarts Legacy.
A Thief in the Night is a side quest players receive after speaking with Padriac Haggarty, a merchant in charge of the Irondale Hamlet Shop. After speaking with Padriac, he will explain that he thinks his sister, Catrian Haggarty, has stolen a valuable family heirloom.
The heirloom is the Haggarty family necklace. This guide will show you how to find it and capture the thief behind the crime.
A Thief in the Night side quest guide – Hogwarts Legacy
To start the side quest, A Thief in the Night, visit Irondale Hamlet to the southeast of the Feldcroft Region, then speak to Padriac Haggarty.
Prior to browsing his wares, Padriac will assign you the optional quest to find a stolen prized family necklace of which he believes his sister was the culprit.
- Use Revelio to mark a trail of coins that begins to the right of the shop.
- Follow the trail of coins to the southwest by spamming Revelio to continue marking the path.
- The trail will eventually lead you through the Small Bandit Camp to the west.
- After handling the enemies, you will be led to the Niffler Den to the east of the Feldcroft Catacomb Floo Flame.
- Climb the rocks above to find the Haggarty Family Heirloom.
- It turns out the culprit was actually a Niffler and not Catrin Haggarty. Now you must capture the real perpetrator.
- Go back down into the Niffler Den. Use Revelio to mark the thief, named The Irondale Pilferer.
- Use Levioso to levitate the Pilferer and the Nab-Sack to capture the thief.
- Return to Padriac Haggarty in Irondale to complete the quest.
Although Catrin Haggarty was not responsible for the crime after all, she remains an associate of Victor Rockwood. What’s more, she is an Infamous Foe who must be defeated as part of The Lost Child Relationship Quest.
