One Of Hideo Kojima’s Next Games Is “Almost Like A New Medium”

Hideo Kojima, the legendary game designer who gifted the world with the Stealth genre with the popular Metal Gear Solid series, and took the industry in a radical new direction with the more recent Death Stranding, now says one of his next games is “almost a new medium.”

One of the upcoming titles is something he has evidently wanted to make for years, but the technology just wasn’t up to snuff until now. He says, “if this succeeds, it will turn things around–not just in the game industry, but in the movie industry as well.”

Kojima is known for his deep love of cinema and has always incorporated the movie experience into his games. His existing line of titles is known for having more cutscenes than the majority of others in the history of the industry.

Unfortunately, in his interview with The Guardian, he did not give any details on what he meant by “a new medium” but more of how it is the second or third person who is likely to succeed commercially. Although first-person experiences do better than any other when executed properly, Kojima admits to the difficulty of this.

While Kojima did tease one of his upcoming projects, revealing that it will feature Elle Fanning, it is not clear if this relates to the rumored sequel to Death Stranding or if it is the other unannounced project. It’s also possible that the second project is the same one he mentioned during his partnership with Xbox Game Studios, as Death Stranding is still a console exclusive on PlayStation.

Many people speculate that he is waiting to reveal the experience at The Game Awards, considering the frequency in which Kojima and Geoff Keighley work together.
