Bayonetta Creator Hideki Kamiya’s Next Game Is One Only He Can Make

Hideki Kamiya, the former VP of Platinum Games, a studio he helped co-found in 2007, spoke about his recent plans for his upcoming game project.

Kamiya revealed that since his departure in September, he had spent some time taking a break without any specific plans for life after his time with the company. His exit was the result of creative differences and Platinum Games moving in a direction that did not fall in line with his artistic beliefs.

In an interview with IGN, Kamiya said “I don’t think of games as products, but rather as works of art…I want to put my artistry into games and deliver games that could only be made by Hideki Kamiya, so that players can enjoy Hideki Kamiya games exactly as they are. I decided to leave the company and forge my own path, to continue making games that reflect the developers who made them.”

As for his next title, Kamiya has said he has a “clear idea” and is translating these thoughts into a proposal to shop around for. Kamiya remains tight-lipped on which game this will be, but he included that “it’ll be a Hideki Kamiya game” if developed.

“That said, making games rarely goes the way you imagined, so I want to explore my options and find the route that works best for me”, said Kamiya.

Kamiya’s contractual obligations still have several months to go. In the meantime, he created a YouTube channel to post new content. “Once that year is up, when I have news to announce then I hope my YouTube channel will give me a platform to announce it.”
