Halo Infinite Update Brings New Mode, New Maps, and Progression Changes

halo infinite season 5 updates

Halo Infinite Season 5: Reckoning launches on October 17, and offers the new Extraction game mode, new maps, new cosmetics, and revamped progression.

The Return of Extraction

Extraction is a game mode that debuted in Halo 4, and is a 5v5 objective match involving players placing a beacon at specific parts of a map and guarding it from enemies until it is “extracted.” Although there will be revamped changes coming to extraction for Halo Infinite, it has not yet been completely revealed by developer 343 Industries.

New Maps

There are two new maps. The first, called Prism, takes place in a crystal mine buried underground. By shooting crystals in the wall, players can launch needler-like projectiles to kill and track enemies. The second, called Forbidden, takes place in a Forerunner temple in the vein of Halo 2.

AI Enemies in Forge, New Firefight Mode

Players will be able to add enemy AI to their Forge creations and populate maps with Grunts, Brutes, and more. At some point after the update launches, Halo Infinite will be adding a Firefight: King of the Hill mode in which players can cooperatively fight waves of AI enemies on multiplayer maps.

New Cosmetics

Many new cosmetics will be added in the season, and some will include weapons and armor inspired by the Flood. Still, the update will revamp the rewards system of the battle pass for cosmetics. Players will also be able to use additional armor cores. For instance, helmets will be able to be equipped with any armor core. In addition, armor color schemes and coating will work across all armor cores.

Battle Pass Changes

The battle pass will now be reduced to 50 tiers, with 20 tiers including free content and a similar number of cosmetics as previous passes. Players can now also progress the battle pass via custom games.

Operations

Operations are comparable to events in that they offer limited-time free cosmetics and specific modes. However, operations will last significantly longer (up to six weeks) depending. These types of events can be purchased for 500 credits in the shop long after expiration, and the purchase will also unlock a bonus cosmetic. For 2000 credits, the entire pass and bonus cosmetic can be unlocked without grinding.

Progress through the mini-pass as part of the Operation will rely on Match XP instead of challenge completion. In Season 5, two operations will premiere, including “Combined Arms” on November 14 and “Winter Contingency III” on December 19.

Halo Infinite is a first-person shooter developed by 343 Industries and initially released in 2021 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
