Halo composer Marty O’Donnell intends to win a seat in Congress for the Nevada GOP “because he’s a gamer.”
O’Donnell, one of the most revered musicians in the history of the industry, who also did the initial composition for Destiny, was fired by Bungie in 2014, which led to a lawsuit against the company.
He announced his campaign for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in March 2024. Marty plans to run for Nevada’s third congressional district as a Republican, challenging Susie Lee, the current Democratic incumbent. Since this announcement, he has expressed traditional right-wing views, blaming problems on the government, undocumented immigrants, and a lack of family values.
In an interview with The Epoch Times, O’Donnell explained that although he’s up against an opponent with more money and resources, he is determined to win because he is a gamer.
“I’m a gamer, so I intend to win,” said O’Donnell. “And I’m not going to lose because somebody thinks they can spend more money than me, because they can’t.”
As a young child, O’Donnell claims that he always “wanted to be a rock star”, with split interests between “Ronald Reagan” and “Paul McCartney.”
When questioned on why a musician with no prior political experience should be elected to Congress, O’Donnell suggested that the government should offer opportunities to people from varied backgrounds.
“You don’t want 10 engineers making the game. You want an engineer, an artist, an animator, a composer, a writer, a designer—you want people who just approach the world differently,” explained O’Donnell. “You don’t want all designers. You don’t want all composers. They would be horrible.”
“What I see happening in Congress is like a walk in the park compared to making Halo 2.”, he concluded.
