Google Stadia Begins Processing Refunds

Google has started rolling out refunds for subscribers of the Stadia streaming service, whose shutdown was announced in September. An automated system is processing thousands of refunds, and users that purchased add-on content and games will be getting their money back very soon.

In an official company statement, Google has requested that fans be patient during this process, urging people not to reach out to customer support due to their inability to expedite the process. Most refunds are expected to be sent out in full by January 18, 2023, the same day the servers for Stadia are shutting down.

Refunds will be applied to the same type of payment that was used for the original purchase. If they were any issues with the processing, Google will be reaching out via email, providing details on future steps.

The following products and services as part of Google Stadia are eligible for refunds:

  • All Stadia hardware, which includes the Founder’s edition, controller, Premiere edition, and Play and Watch via Google TV packages.
  • Software that includes in-game transactions, games, and add-ons.

However, Stadia Pro subscription fees that were made before September 29, 2022, will not be processed. People that had an active membership for Stadia Pro after this date will not see charges to access personal libraries or any other benefits until the January shutdown. As of now, the Stadia Store is closed.

Major developers, including Bungie and Ubisoft, have announced their plans to salvage games, data, and user accounts to other platforms.
