Genshin Impact on Nintendo Switch: Here’s Everything We Know

Genshin Impact has received a multitude of industry rewards for its outreach and popularity. At the moment, it is available across many platforms, including PC, mobile, and PS4/PS5. However, a Genshin Impact Switch version for Nintendo Switch is still in development.

While miHoYo’s open-world action RPG saw its first release in September 2020, the title has gone on to become one of the most played games on mobile and desktop devices around the world.

Despite some noticeable similarities in the Genshin Impact experience to that of the iconic franchise by Nintendo known as the Legend of Zelda series, many Nintendo fans still desire a Genshin Impact Switch release. Colorful cell-shaded graphics, anime-esque characters, dungeons filled with monsters, and a vast open world are the only real features that they share in common.

Will Genshin Impact be on Nintendo Switch?

An official port to the current console family of Nintendo was first confirmed by miHoYo as early as January 2020 in a trailer released on the company’s YouTube channel. This was months prior to the game having come out worldwide.

Originally, it was set to arrive sometime in 2021, but this never came to pass. Instead, miHoYo opted to port the game to PS5 in advance. That system still has yet to arrive in the hands of most gamers, thanks to semiconductor shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of now, we are left hanging without a proper release date. However, there has been no word that the port was canceled. Check back here on occasion for updates, and we’ll inform you as they come.

Is Genshin Impact free on Switch?

Genshin Impact is a free-to-play action RPG across all the systems it is currently on. The game is funded through optional in-game microtransactions. One example includes purchasing premium currency in the form of Primogems. Here, players have more chances to pull their favorite character from one of the many banners.

Furthermore, Nintendo Switch offers a plethora of titles in this category. For example, Pokémon Unite is a free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game released as a first-party title on the console. The monetization strategy is quite similar to Genshin Impact.

Therefore, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that if and when it comes out on Switch, the game will be entirely free to download and play. Likewise, ongoing content updates will be doled out at no expense to the player.

Why has Genshin Impact been delayed on Switch?

It’s no surprise to discover that the Nintendo Switch, with all its accessibility and features, is technologically inferior to other competing systems. According to some reports and rumors, the game has had its Switch port delayed due to the fact that miHoYo, the developer, has been experiencing problems with the weaker hardware.

This could be a hint that Genshin Impact will be delayed until further notice or finally come out when Nintendo releases the successor to the Switch system in the form of a Switch 2 or Switch Pro. Only time will tell.

Right now, the community is still anticipating a Switch release perhaps occurring sometime this Fall. Stay tuned for updates.
