This comes after many months of competitive negotiations with the massive streaming company fighting to get the rights and partnership with The Coalition, the Canadian developer of the series, who debuted Gears of War back in ’07.
Hollywood has been attempting to adapt the Gears franchise pretty much since the first game’s release. Unfortunately, there was a heavy battle for the rights that once belonged to New Line.
Scott Stuber, a Netflix film head, was tasked with producing a trademark adaptation, but it was with Universal at the time.
The world is set on a planet that is attacked by rampaging monstrous creatures from the underground called Locust. With societal collapse impending and humanity on the brink of extermination, the Delta Squad, a fireteam of highly skilled soldiers led by Sergeant Marcus Fenix, is now charged with leading the last stand of humanity against these creatures.
Gears has been on the wishlist for many big names, including Dave Bautista, a former WWE Champion, who turned down a Fast and Furious role for the chance to play Fenix in an adaptation.
