Game Freak, the developer behind the mainline Pokémon franchise, is partnering with Private Division, a publishing label under Take-Two, for a new game. Although we don’t have a lot of details, Private Division has revealed that this is a “brand-new action-adventure IP” that’s being made under the Project Bloom codename.
The first bit of concept art was shown off, and it looks pretty cool. It shows a person with a sword staring deep into the woods with hazy, yellow colors taking over the scene. Regardless of whether or not this indicates the true art style of the game, it’s quite impressive and is a major departure from most of the titles that Game Freak has produced.

Outside of the Pokémon series, the last major original entry the developer churned out was Little Town Hero (2019). That game is a turn-based RPG with the same cartoony, cel-shaded graphics you’d find in your average Nintendo exclusive.
However, according to Koto Furushima, Game Freak director, Project Bloom is set to be something “bold and tonally different” from the company’s existing portfolio. He said that “From the beginning, Private Division was the publisher we wanted to work with on our new game. Their track record and global expertise give us all the confidence to create a sweeping new action-adventure game that we can’t wait to share more about in the future.”
At the moment, Project Bloom is in the early stages of development, but Private Division has confirmed expectations for a release in fiscal 2026. This means the game is set to come out sometime between April 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026. No platforms for the title have been announced.
Despite being known for the Pokémon series, Game Freak has an internal studio called Gear Project that develops other games, such as Giga Wrecker, Tembo the Badass Elephant, and Pocket Card Jockey.
The establishment of Private Division took place in 2015, and it was responsible for several successful titles, such as Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds.
