Flappy Bird, the mobile game phenomenon from time past, is returning to iOS and Android in 2025.
For those who have never played, Flappy Bird is a game that played with only a single thumb. The objective is to ensure the bird continuously flies past pipe obstacles to increase the player’s score.
In 2014, Dong Nguyen, a Vietnam-based developer, took the mobile gaming industry by storm after taking Flappy Bird off the App Store and Google Play Store at a time when it was making tens of thousands of dollars a day. He proceeded to explain “I can call Flappy Bird a success of mine. But it also ruins my simple life. So now I hate it.”
Just over a decade later, Flappy Bird is set to return, including an expanded version aiming for launch by the conclusion of October across various platforms including web browsers, and a mobile version planned for release in 2025. However, this new Flappy Bird is being made by “a new team of passionate fans committed to sharing the game with the world” under the alias ‘The Flappy Bird Foundation.’
