Use Equipped Materia Repeatedly
You must slot Materia into your equipment and use their abilities in order to level them up. Materia improves by acquiring Ability Points (AP). It’s important to equip healing and elemental Materia as early on in your playthrough as possible in order to strengthen these spells for boss fights.
Get the AP-Up Materia
Outside of continuous use, the fastest way to level up Materia in Final Fantasy VII Remake is to acquire the Pedometer Materia in Chapter 14 just outside Aerith’s house.
The Pedometer Materia transforms into the AP-Up Materia after you walk 5000 steps with it equipped. When you link the AP-Up Materia to another you wish to level in a conjoined slot, it will allow you to easily grind all your Materia to the max level.
How to Grind Materia Levels
Because having high-level and/or maxed-out Materia is so important when playing on Hard difficulty, it helps to grind their levels during a Normal or Easy mode playthrough.
We recommend getting to Chapter 17 and repeatedly using the Shinra Combat Simulator (found near the beginning of this part of the story) to fight enemies that will help you level up Materia.
