Final Fantasy VII Remake – How to Beat Bahamut

bahamut ff7 remake

Bahamut is one of the most challenging boss battles in Final Fantasy VII Remake. Here are tips and tricks to beat it as part of the endgame.

How to Unlock Bahamut Boss Fight

You must complete every VR fight and Battle Intel Report issued by Chadley. Most can be beaten naturally by progressing through the game, but others will require grinding.

Preparations

This is one of the game’s final (optional) challenges. You need to be as prepared as possible before going in.

Up to 11 of the 12 types of magic Materia can be purchased from vending machines, while the last (Aero) can be purchased from Chadley.

Below are our recommendations:

  • Level 50 for all party members (max)
  • Upgrade weapons as much as possible. See our weapons guide for the best equipment and Manuscript locations to max out your SP.
  • Max out all your Materia. Ensure party members have access to Healing, Fire, Magnify, and stat-boosting Materias like HP Up, Magic Up, MP Up, and Luck Ups.
  • 7000 HP minimum for all party members.

How to Defeat Bahamut

The ideal party includes Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith. Cloud and Tifa can focus primarily on damage and building stagger, with Aerith becoming the sole magic attacker and healer.

General Attacks

It’s more important to block Bahamut’s attacks rather than evade them. They have large hitboxes and strict timing windows, so mitigating the damage is more efficient. As the fight continues, his attacks will become more frequent and relentless.

Megaflare

At various points throughout the fight, Bahamut will start to charge a devastating attack called Megaflare, counting down from 5. As soon as this happens, you will need to stagger him to cause an interrupt. Otherwise, it’s game over.

To quickly stagger Bahamut, hit him with a Firaga cast, then switch to Cloud and Tifa, hitting him with Focused Thrust or Focused Strike.

Umbral Aura

This attack sees Bahamut generating a massive energy field around itself that deals damage over time. You simply need to heal through it and go into the fight with high HP.

Stagger

Late into the battle, you should have Summons and Limit Breaks available for use to do the last bit of damage needed to win the fight entirely or stagger him. Once staggered, use Unbridled Strength to power Tifa’s strong attacks that deal big damage but increase the staggering percentage of the boss.
