To unlock the Absence of a Sign quest in FF7 Rebirth, you first need to reach Chapter 10 and complete the story mission ‘Uninvited Guests’ in Cosmo Canyon.

Once this story quest is completed and you return to the settlement, fast travel to the Planetary Assembly.

Speak to Ceasar by the Telescope to start the quest.

You will be tasked with going to three separate locations across Cosmo Canyon to take pictures to match the ones he has in his notes. These photographs should have 80 percent accuracy, but Ceasar will take anything if you struggle to reach this mark.

Photograph Locations

Celestial Phenomena Location 1

Warp to the Cosmo Canyon Airship. Then, take the winding mountain path to the left of the shack. You will eventually encounter a Reapertail. After killing the Reapertail, you will be presented with the opportunity to photograph it.

Walk to where Aerith is standing, then focus the lens so that it is facing the archway of the rocky mountain. Proceed to move the lens until the zoom turns green and says at least 80%.

Celestial Phenomena Location 2

Get to the Planetological Ruins and head north. Travel up the winding path with massive ruins on either side.

You will see two sets of white stairs broken up between the rocks. Climb up the steps and veer right to the giant platform. After stepping on the platform, you will encounter a Reapertail. After killing the Reaptertail, you will be presented with the opportunity to photograph it.

Celestial Phenomena Location 3

Fast travel to the Activation Intel 6: Ancient Capital Tower point. You should unlock Gliding Range No. 16-124m.

Take the following ramps in order to reach the Celestial Phenomena location.

  • 1: Gliding Range No. 6-61m.
  • 2: Gliding Range No. 7-78m.
  • 3: Gliding Range No. 13-88m.
  • 4: Gliding Range No. 14-90m.
  • 5: Gliding Range No. 16-124m.
  • 6: Fly to the Activation Intel 6: Ancient Capital Tower.

Use the Chocobo to run up the ramp then glide to the other side. Take the winding path around the mountain to find Gliding Range No. 7-78m. This will send you across the canyon.

Gliding Range No. 7-78m

Head up Gliding Range No. 7-78m and glide across the canyon. Use the air vents to ensure your Chocobo Mount keeps flying. Land on the other side, then head up the stairs and travel north to reach another set of stairs. At the top, go right and find Gliding Range No. 13-88m.

Go up the mountain and take the windy path that wraps around until you get to the top to find Gliding Range No. 16-124m. This is the last ramp that shoots you across all of Cosmo Canyon. Use the air vents to push you across to reach Activation Intel 6: Ancient Capital Tower.

Fly past the tower to reach the ancient ruins. Go up the stairs and head north until you exit the ruins. Follow the Celestial Phenomena marker until you get to a large rock you can climb with your Chocobo.

You will see a fan hidden near the end of the platform that sends you flying to the plateau containing the Celestial Phenomena. Like in previous sections, you must defeat the Reapertail.

Walk to where Aerith is standing, then focus the lens so that it is facing between the two mountain peaks. Proceed to move the lens until the zoom turns green and says at least 80%.

Quest Rewards

  • Deck of Tarot Cards
  • 10 Party EXP
  • 1,600 EXP (for each character)
  • Improved relationship with Aerith

The Absence of a Sign quest helps to Romance Aerith in FF7 Rebirth. If you arrive at Chapter 12 without enough points to win a Gold Saucer date with Aertih, completing this quest can give you the extra boost you need.
