During an interview with GamesRadar+, Hiroshi Takai, Final Fantasy 16’s director, was asked whether or not future titles in the iconic JRPG series may launch on PC the same day as other platforms. He responded, “I think it’s possible – probably even likely,” but quickly added, “That said, the team in charge of each project gets to decide its own policy, so this is just my personal opinion.”
Square Enix has been transparent about its corporate policy shift over the last year. The company announced that would “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs”. Furthermore, it was mentioned that future titles would no longer be exclusive to any particular platform, instead aiming to “create an environment where more customers can enjoy their works.”
This strategy is seemingly kicking off with Final Fantasy 16 and extending to future titles. If the game receives outstanding success on PC, in a similar vein to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade did, it is likely that future Final Fantasy titles will see a PC release simultaneously with other platforms.
It has been officially confirmed that the PC release of Final Fantasy 16 is September 17, and will include both of its DLCs.
