After 11 years, FarmVille, the beloved life simulation game that launched on Facebook will be shutting down, according to developer Zynga.
Very soon, companies such as Adobe, Meta, and Google will pull support for Flash Players that run games like FarmVille by the end of this year.
In a post on the official website, Zynga came out and said “Following an incredible 11 years since its initial launch back in 2009, we are officially announcing the closure of the original FarmVille game on Facebook…as previously stated, Adobe will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers, and Facebook will stop supporting Flash games on the platform completely after December 31, 2020. FarmVille will therefore be directly affected as a result of this.”

FarmVille will remain playable until the last day of the year but will be shut down completely after this. Gamers will no longer be able to make in-app purchases starting November 17.
Obviously, this means the years of progress that players put into the game are being wiped from history, but Zynga is encouraging people to move on to the mobile-exclusive sequels FarmVille 2: Tropic Escape & Country Escape, as well as FarmVille 3.
Back in the day, FarmVille was one of the biggest things to ever happen to Facebook, with well over 60 million active players during its launch in 2009. By the following year, it peaked at more than 80 million users per month.
