Fan-Made Switch 2 Detachable Screen Accessory Shows Potential

The Nintendo Switch 1, as it is right now, has proven it is fully capable of supporting both the horsepower and control schema necessary to preserve and emulate just about every single game from Nintendo’s legacy backlog, from the NES all the way up until the Wii. Why do we include the Wii? Not only because Joy-Cons support motion control, but Nintendo literally gave us Super Mario Galaxy bundled together with two other games, and it works perfectly on Switch!

Yet, the one and only console the Switch cannot completely recreate due to its single-screen design is ironically Nintendo’s most commercially successful system: the DS. The good news is that a fan-made accessory for Switch 2 showcases a potential way to get around this.

Reddit user r/JardDog did some impressive heavy lifting for the r/NintendoSwitch2 subreddit. An animation they’ve created of a pair of detachable accessory concepts for the upcoming console has amassed over 3,700 upvotes. It’s understandable why — The graphics and manipulation of the Switch 2’s shell and Joy-Con flipping and spinning is high-quality stuff.

The accessories shown are an attachable second screen (seen playing Tomodachi Life of all things) and an EyeToy/Kinect-esque camera. Both of these ideas were inspired by a patent suggesting that the Switch 2 can be turned 180 degrees to be played upside down. I’m sure Spider-Man loves this idea.

With the Switch 2 reveal still over a month away, on April 2nd, many of our imaginations are running wild. And while we don’t know just what will and won’t be possible with the console just yet, this concept animation inspires some really cool ideas that call back to the Nintendo DS.
