At New York Comic-Con 2023 (NYCC), Toei Animation made an announcement for an all-new Dragon Ball anime series arriving in fall 2024. The latest entry in the franchise is called Dragon Ball Daima.
In context, the word Daima is a loose translation of the Japanese term “big” or “large”. Ironically, the show appears to be an adventure saga featuring Goku and Vegeta in chibi form. Not only are the two protagonists tiny, but so are everyone else in the vein of Dragon Ball GT. However, unlike GT which was met with mostly negative reception, series creator Akira Toriyama is directly involved with the production process of Daima.
“There are some things I can’t say but one thing I can tell you is [in] this production Akira Toriyama has been deeply involved beyond his usual capacity overseeing the original work, story, character design, and more…Additionally, [Toriyama] has planned entirely new episodes for the storyline so please look forward to the start of the series.”
Akio Iyoku, executive producer
Despite the limited details regarding the level of involvement Toriyama has with Daima, Iyoku said that the series’ name was decided mere days before the world premiere at NYCC and that Toriyama “meticulously” created elements of the show, including the designs of characters, vehicles, and monsters.
The trailer suggests that Daima will be a refreshing new entry in the franchise, and the animation looks top-notch. Goku also returns with the iconic Power Pole.
