Dolphin Emulator’s Official Steam Release Indefinitely Delayed

Dolphin Emulator, the world’s most trusted software to emulate the Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii, and library of games on PC and other devices, has announced that the official Steam release has been indefinitely postponed.

This is due to a note from Valve citing a DMCA takedown from Nintendo to the reputable community of developers behind Dolphin, which was named after the codename project during the GameCube’s creation.

According to The Verge, it seems Valve was partially to blame, reporting the emulator’s attempt to have an official presence on the platform directly to Nintendo. This was likely done to avoid legal entanglements. In the company’s own words, it states that:

We operate Steam as an open platform, but that relies on creators shipping only things they have the legal right to distribute.

Nintendo has had a sad, long-standing crusade against the pirate community, believing Nintendo games should only ever be played on official Nintendo hardware. Unfortunately, even with Switch Online, Nintendo has failed to offer complete legacy support for their backlog of decades of titles that people want to go back and experience.

While this may be of inconvenience to many who would like an easy way to play retro games from Steam, there’s a simple workaround you can do in the meantime. Check out our guide to learn more.
