In this guide, you will learn what the Chest of the Mundane is, where to find it, and how to fix the bug while playing Baldur’s Gate 3.
The Chest of the Mundane casts an illusion on all items stored inside of it to make them appear mundane. When retrieved, the items return back to their regular form.
Where to Find Chest of the Mundane – BG3
The Chest of the Mundane is found on the 1st floor of the Arcane Tower, in the southwest region of the Underdark. Follow the below steps to get to it.
- Go to the southwestern region of the Underdark.
- Beware of the Arcane turrets. Either sneak around them or try destroying them.
- Use crouch or Invisibility (level 2 spell) to maneuver.
- Get inside, then make your way to the first floor.
- Go to the Balcony (X: -38, Y: -263).
- Open the chest and find the following items. They appear like metal spoons, spatulas, etc. but have a real value when looted:
- Scroll of Protection from Evil and Good
- Mystra’s Grace boots
- Scroll of Shield of Faith
- Scroll of Mage Armour
You can use the Chest of the Mundane to take or store items. It’s best to keep it for storage as it greatly reduces the weight of your items.
To equip Mystra’s Grace boots, simply drag and drop the icon on your character of choice using the Inventory.
How to Fix the Chest of the Mundane bug – BG3
Players have encountered a bug while using the Chest of the Mundane. Previously, putting items into the chest would reduce their weight, letting you carry more without becoming encumbered. Unfortunately, this no longer works.
There is no fix for the Chest of the Mundane bug. According to the game’s developer, Larian Studios, the original implementation that reduced item weights was an unintended bug. Meaning, that the chest was never supposed to alter weight.
Instead, the Chest of the Mundane is supposed to store items without counting towards the carry limit. However, items inside would still have their normal weights.
With time, there may become a mod available that restores the original functionality. Players need to manage inventory weights carefully, sending excess items to their camp for storage.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is a role-playing game developed by Larion Studios and released in 2023 for PC, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
