From AI, Transparent TVs, Palm Readers, and Spectre Laptops, to Smart Lighting, here are all the major announcements from CES 2024 in Las Vegas.
The Consumer Electronics Show is an annual press conference for large tech companies to showcase their latest products and innovations. CES 2024 took place from January 9-12.
Day 1
Transparent TVs
Samsung and LG have unveiled two new Transparent TVs. The microLED demo by Samsung showcased a vision of the future rather than what can realistically be expected in consumer homes anytime soon. Modularity allows buyers to custom-fit transparent displays to their liking.
LG debuted an OLED TV that displays images over a transparent panel, creating an effect similar to a fish tank.
Roborock’s New Q Revo Vacuums
Roborock showed off a series of new robot vacuums, including the Q Revo series. Both the Q Revo Pro and Q Revo MaxV deliver the efficient cleaning performance seen in the company’s flagship devices but at a much lower price.
Each will offer a new FlexiArm design to deal with corners and edges, working alongside a 7000Pa function to lift dirt and debris from homes.
The Multifunctional Dock 2.0 will handle automatic emptying, refilling, washing, and drying. However, the Q Revo series utilizes hot water re-wash and re-mop settings that Roborock assures will sufficiently sanitize floors.
Mental Health Mirror
The BMind Smart Mirror by Baracoda combines natural language processing (NLP) and AI to analyze the sentiment of someone looking into the mirror through tones, gestures, and expressions.
Using this data, it adapts to the person’s current mood, providing guided meditations, light therapy sessions, and self-affirmations to better manage user stress.
Palm Recognition Smart Lock
A new palm recognition smart lock by Phillips is the first to include the technology in a consumer product. Using touchless technology, the device scans the vein pattern in a person’s palm by reading it a few inches in front. Users can add up to 50 Palm ID options.
The device is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assitant, using Wi-Fi for connectivity.
AI-powered Laptops
HP is releasing a set of Spectre laptops powered by AI. Using an AI assistant, called Superpower, the intelligence can be customized to learn information about the user, generating text that contains more personal context than what was created with traditional bots like ChatGPT.
QD mini LED TV (115″)
TCL unveiled its massive 115-inch QD mini LED TV. Not only does it sport an impressive size, but it also offers 20,000 local dimming zones with an anti-glare screen to ensure users can watch no matter the room’s lighting conditions. Finally, it packs a 2.1.2 channel speaker system with Dolby Atmos speakers built in.
In addition, the display panel is a 120Hz QLED (up to 144Hz with VRR). The built-in AIPQ Ultra Processor powers the 20,000 dimming zones, using AI to improve upscaling and reproduce color, making it incredibly sharp and clear.
Earbuds That Measure Heart Rate
Sennheiser debuted several new earbuds, but the most impressive is the Momentum Sport. These earbuds are designed for fitness and to measure body temperature in addition to heart rate. The sensors integrate with fitness apps, trackers, and subscriptions like the Apple Health app, Apple Watch, and more.
Samsung SmartThings
Samsung announced new features and updates to the SmartThings app. The most impactful includes the Map View, which offers a 3D layout of homes to make smart devices more easily accessible. This app allows anyone to create a 3D map by uploading the floor plan of their home or by sketching the plan on the app to create the layout.
Anti-Gravity Robot Window Cleaner
The Winbot W2 Cleaner by Ecovacs attaches to windows like a vacuum to ensure clean windows without elbow grease. It includes three nozzles for a wide-angle spray, covering the full area to not grip on floors.
IMAX Smart Projector
Xgimi’s Horizon Max projector is the world’s first IMAX-enhanced-certified long-throw smart projector. It offers an IMAX aspect ratio of 1:44:1 or 1.9:1, higher levels of brightness for HDR, and clear images to deliver the ultimate at-home movie nights.
Day 2
New Android Device Features
Android users will be getting a ton of new features announced by Google. The most evident includes Quick Share, which will offer peer-to-peer content sharing across all types of devices running the OS, including Chromebooks and phones.
The Fast Pair support expansion includes additional casting capabilities to more devices and apps (including TikTok) and Android Auto integration into additional vehicles.
Smart Lighting
Nanoleaf has announced a ton of new additions to its lineup of smart lighting products, including Orchestrator software to integrate music. This software directly connects to a computer’s sound source, isolating the response to the device and having lights react to an audio track’s different layers with high precision.
The company also revealed the Nanoleaf Skylight, a set of square light panels for ceilings that can emit 1400 lumens per square. Other announcements include multicolor outdoor string lights with Matter support.
Portable Power Station (Whole-House)
The Delta Pro Ultra generator by EcoFlow offers incredible features and specs. Examples include a 6kWh power capacity (enough for an entire home), as well as 7200W output and 5.6kW of solar input. The system is compatible with expansion packs that can extend the power capacity to 90kWh, enough energy to power an entire home for a month.
Android’s Version of Double-Tap
Wow Mouse is an app built for Android smartwatches that communicates with Bluetooth devices nearby but extends the double tap feature of the Apple Watch by letting users manipulate speaker volume and turn lights on and off.
Phone Charging In Mere Seconds
Swappery showed off an external smartphone battery that can deal with drainage in only seven seconds. When a phone runs out of power, simply place it over the Swappery station, wait seven seconds, then remove it to get a new attachment that lasts up to 10 hours.
While it isn’t the most conventional charger, it provides a fully charged battery without having to use plugs or cables.
Hybrid Laptop
The ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid was announced by Lenovo, and it’s a 2-in-1- device that can act as a laptop boasting an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor or a touchscreen tablet packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ processor.
It’s also able to seamlessly switch between Windows and Android operating systems, depending on which mode you choose. Each of the components includes a battery.
AI Gadget To Interact With Apps
Rabbit’s R1 device is designed to replace smartphones when it comes to applications. It fits into the palm of your hand, using AI to see and learn how users interact with their typical smartphone apps, reproducing it on a cloud platform when verbally asked.
Matter Casting
Amazon is introducing a new way to cast videos from phones and tablets directly on supported devices. Known as Matter Casting, it lets users cast Prime Video to the Echo Show 15, with support for Fire TV devices and services like Plex, Pluto TV, Sling TV, STARZ, and more within the year.
Day 3
Smart Rings
Wearable technology has begun embracing rings, and soon, smart rings may become as common as smartwatches.
One of the best features of the AmazFit Helio Ring includes the Zepp Aura AI Health and wellness service that includes customized sleep sounds that adjust based on the body’s detailed sleep reports and response. It also answers questions using an AI chatbot.
Solar Concepts
Tech concepts are fun even though they aren’t designed to showcase something users can expect to purchase or use anytime soon. Instead, they serve to show off the possibilities of where tech can potentially take us in the future.
Solar concepts like the Jackery Solar Generator Mars bot invite people to consider a smart energy harvester with 600W retractable Solar Wings, offering 25% max solar conversion efficiency.
Portable and Foldable Monitors
Asus has claimed to release the world’s first “foldable OLED portable monitor” using the ZenScreen Fold. This portability comes from a screen weighing under three pounds, measuring only 12.5 inches when folded. The features include a built-in stand that works in landscape and portrait mode, with the ability to be positioned as a second screen.
Sony’s Competitor to Apple Vision Pro
Sony unveiled a high-end XR headset designed to rival the Apple Vision Pro in terms of overall design and capabilities. The largest difference between Sony and Apple is the former is designed for 3D engineers and content creators.
Sony’s XR Headset includes 4K OLED microdisplays, a Qualcomm XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, and a series of wearable controllers in the form of a pointer and ring. What’s more, the headset solves the problem of taking on and off a bulky device using a door flip system.
Alexa and AI
Amazon is announcing additional capabilities for Alexa which uses generative AI. You can now chat with different chatbots using your Alexa-enabled devices, such as a fitness coach. Splash lets AI create a song based on what you tell it, like making up your jazz song.
Satechi Upgrades to Best-Selling Products
Satechi announced a slew of new upgrades for Apple fans, including the Stand & Hub for Mac Studio and Mac Mini, which has been redesigned to include an NVMe SSD enclosure, supporting both NVMe and M.2 SATA SSDs. This lets these devices add more high-speed storage.
What’s more, Satechi’s improved Thunderbolt 4 Slim Hub has extended its power supply by 60% using the new 150W GaN built-in battery.
Day 4
Drone Delivery
The DJI Flycart 30 is a delivery drone for businesses that can carry as heavy of a load as 66 pounds across more than 25 miles on a single battery. However, it costs a whopping $42,000.
AirTag Dog Collar
For those who own pets, Catalyst is introducing a dog collar with durable nylon webbing that snugly holds an AirTag. It not only keeps tabs on the dog but also improves resistance to tears and scratches, providing a quality tracking solution.
Robot Lawn Mower
To take on household chores, the robot lawnmower by Aiper Horizon took the stage. Using an onboard GPS and inertial navigation system, the device is capable of mowing up to 0.7 acres with extreme precision. It can also detect and navigate around common obstacles in the yard to make lawn maintenance a breeze.
AI Gaming Lights
Govee’s Gaming Sync Box Kit now supports Matter and includes an AI algorithm known as CogniGlow. This algorithm is capable of translating in-game content with dynamic lighting effects to provide an immersive experience at 99% accuracy.
Auto-tracking iPhone Stand
Belkin is offering a new MagSafe tech auto-tracking iPhone stand for content creators. It sticks to the back of the smartphone with a 90-degree motorized tilt and 360-degree movement tracking. The innovation ensures you stay in the frame without the need for tripods.
