Bungie’s Destiny 2: The Final Shape expansion will now be released in June 2024, according to game director Joel Blackburn. This confirms the delay after team layoffs.
The delay has been rumored for several months, as the expansion was originally supposed to be released in February and conclude the game’s storyline.
In the words of Bungie, the delay is due to the fact that the company “needs more time to become exactly what we want it to be…to deliver an even bigger and bolder vision.”
The final season of the game’s calendar, Season of the Wish, will include additional content to offset the delay. Beginning in February, there will be weekly progression-based quests known as Wishes that offer unique rewards. Guardian Games will also be moved up to March with renewed attention to class vs. class combat. In April, players will receive a bridge content update called Destiny 2: Into the Light.
Layoffs at Bungie have also delayed the release of Marathon, the next entry in their rebooted IP that was originally released for Macs back in 1994.
When it comes to The Final Shape, the expansion will offer new dungeons, new character classes, new maps, and more.
