Liongate has just released a trailer for its adaptation of the wacky, zany first-person shooter adventure series known as Borderlands, directed by Eli Roth. It seems to be going for the Guardians of the Galaxy vibe.
Based on the series of the same name, Borderlands explores the life of alien outlaw Lilith, a wanted woman from the planet Pandora, who comes back to her homeworld to search for a mystical vault apparently filled with invaluable treasure.
Although Lilith is quite familiar with Pandora, she knows her best bet at finding the vault is to gather a team of reliable hunters. Lilith (Cate Blanchett) has little in common with her comrades, which include a mercenary named Roland (Kevin Hart), a mad scientist named Dr. Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis), a demolitionist named Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), an enforcer named Krieg (Florian Munteanu), or the robot Claptrap (Jack Black). However, they are a good enough squad for Lilith to achieve her quest for glory.
The cel-shaded art style of the Borderlands games is well encapsulated in this film judging from the trailer, and the grimy sense of humor of the game’s dialogue is also taken into account.
Borderlands arrives in theaters on August 9th.
