The video-streaming giant that started it all, Netflix, is planning to open physical stores for the first time in 2025. Blockbuster, the company whose entire business model revolved around retail locations for video and game rentals, reacted on social media to great applause.
On Twitter/X, the former rental chain whose fortunes shattered in the wake of digital media and streaming, said “Oh boy… Should we tell Netflix how this ends?”
The official account for Blockbuster has historically roasted Netflix, but in recent times, it has taken things up a notch. It also tweeted that the TikTok influencer Kalen Allen should dress as Reed Hastings for Halloween.
These new physical stores of Netflix, called Netflix Houses will allow fans to “immerse themselves” even more into movies and TV shows. Netflix also opened its own pop-up restaurant in LA called Netflix Bites, back in June.
In spite of Blockbuster and its incredible legacy, there is still one retail location that remains open in Bend, Oregon.
