Best Buy Is Removing DVDs and Blu-rays From Stores

According to a Twitter/X post by Discussing Film, Best Buy has started removing all displays and physical media from their stores. This includes DVDs and Blu-rays of movies and TV shows. However, it has been reported that the stores will likely continue to sell physical video games both online and in-store.

The removal of physical media from Best Buy retail locations comes after it confirmed last October that the change was to provide “more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech.”

“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago,” said an official Best Buy spokesperson at the time. “Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy.”

Despite the changes, physical media has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent months, thanking to streaming platforms removing content with fans having almost no choice but to purchase their shows and movies in physical form. It’s not clear how Best Buy ceasing the sale of physical media will impact this trend or if fans will simply look to other retailers to meet their needs.

Of course, you can always just go and pirate your media digitally, and then find a way to store it.
