Battlecore Robots Is A Fan-Made Spiritual Successor to Custom Robo

Custom Robo is a cult classic series that features Commanders duking it out with geared-up mechas in virtual Holosseums. Although very well received back in the day, the last core entry by developer NOISE was 2007’s Custom Robo Arena, released exclusively for the Nintendo DS. In recent times, indie studio Yellow Fall Games has graced fans with a true spiritual successor in the form of Battlecore Robots.

What started as a class project has quickly grown in the past several years to become something really amazing, as shown off on Reddit. Battlecore Robots features everything you know and love from Custom Robo, complete with refined cel-shaded graphics a la Viewtiful Joe, a story mode with new characters, and tons and tons of parts to unlock!

There actually was an official spiritual successor to Custom Robo, called Synaptic Drive, that was released on Nintendo Switch and PC back in 2020, made by creator Kouji Kenjou’s company, Thousand Games. Unfortunately, it didn’t appeal to fans the way past games did.

Battlecore Robots is currently in development, with a TBA release date for PC. However, you can add it to your Steam wishlist to get notified the minute it goes live. A free playable demo is now available. Follow Yellow Fall Games on Twitter and Discord for more updates.
