In this guide, you will learn the different answers and responses to Withers questions while playing Baldur’s Gate 3.
When receiving a question from NPCs in BG3, players may try to find the correct answer. The reality is that there are different outcomes for different answers.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – What is the Worth of a Single Mortal Life?
During Act 1, you will encounter an Undead entity named Withers. He will ask you the question, “What is the worth of a single mortal life?“
Players can answer Withers questions in any way they wish with six different dialogue choices because every answer has a passable result. After answering the question once, players will be asked the same question again. Depending on your chosen race and class, you may receive a seventh question.
Withers Questions (First Time)
Here are all possible answers to Withers questions for the first time:
- Quite the question. What is the reason for it?
- ‘So he has spoken?’ What ‘he’ are you talking about?
- Little spooked by the crawling out of the tomb bit. What are you?
- A peaceful undead. Interesting. Why aren’t you attacking me?
- Attack.
Withers gives a positive/neutral response to the first and fourth answers.
Withers gives a negative response to the second, third, and fifth answers.
Withers Questions (Second Time)
Here are all possible answers to Withers questions for the second time:
- No one life is worth more than any other. We are equal.
- That depends on a person’s deeds.
- Life’s only value is as currency. Doesn’t matter to me otherwise.
- Each life is of infinite value and merits sacrificing everything for.
- The only life that matters is mine.
- Depends on the mortal.
- Some mortals live much longer than others. I can’t compare them. (Elf race only)
Withers will be satisfied with any answer after he asks you the question for a second time. You can give any response and it will not affect your playthrough, quests, or side-quests.
After answering Withers questions both times, he will show up at the player camp. If you speak to him here, he will offer the Resurrection Service for 200 Gold Points and the ability to respec all party members.
