The next major innovation to Apple’s mobile devices is likely to be foldability, according to recent reports.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple plans to launch two new foldable devices in the coming years. There is a larger model boasting a 19-inch screen that can compete with desktop monitors as well as a smaller model that likely serves as a foldable iPhone.
WSJ said that Apple has been planning both devices for years, but the foldable iPhone will likely come first in 2026. Bloomberg describes the larger device as a giant iPad, saying that it has been the main focus of Apple’s foldable development. Evidently, the team is making big progress towards the goal of creating a screen without the crease that’s visible on existing screens when they’re open.
Flippable smart devices are yet another product idea that Apple is late to the bandwagon on, as this began to hit mainstream consumers with the advent of the Royole FlexPai.
