Apple Intelligence is bringing with it the summarization of notifications and texts. Now it seems that Apple desires to bring summarization to the App Store. Soon, you will be able to see a summary of app reviews made by users prior to downloading an app.
According to 9to5Mac, Apple has created a new system that will allow all user reviews on the App Store to create a summary that highlights “the most common customer feedback” about each app. In addition, each of the summaries will be updated each time new reviews are added.
There is no clear example of what these new App Store summaries will appear like, but they will presumably display on the app page in addition to the app’s screenshots and description. Furthermore, it appears that Apple will generate these summaries online rather than utilize local processing.
The idea is to simplify the user experience when it comes to identifying an app and what it promises. Since these summaries are to be auto-generated, Apple has said that developers will be able to report when they consider a summary to be “inaccurate.”
An app may have a summary that highlights the most common customer feedback and sentiment in user reviews about the app. The summaries are refreshed as new reviews are added. Summaries are available in select countries and regions and for apps with enough reviews to provide a summary. They appear on the app’s product page. If the summary is inaccurate or has another issue, you can report a problem.
Furthermore, summaries will appear only when an app has reached a certain number of reviews. They will only be available in “select countries and regions.” There are currently no details on when exactly this new feature will roll out, but since it already appears in the App Store API, we can assume it will happen soon.
Finally, Apple has pointed out that it is constantly removing ratings and reviews from the App Store that it considers to be fraudulent. In 2023, the company processed over 1 billion reviews, removing approximately 152 fraudulent reviews.
